SkyTruth in Focus: February 2026

Sharing our momentum from 2025

Our quarterly webinar series kicked off this month with our team sharing recent innovations and impactful partnerships that helped make 2025 our strongest year of conservation impact. They featured work that supported advocates, journalists, governments, and researchers, and previewed what’s to come with our analysis and tools this year—check it out! Stay tuned for our next webinar, later this spring, which will highlight our annual report and new website.

Graphic shows the logo for the International Conservation Technology Conference against a teal background. The logo shows an illustration of an orange and blue tree frog on the left. The frog is perched on a teal and green leaf, which is breaking into smaller hexagon-shaped pieces at the bottom with white tech-related icons on each.

🇵🇪 New conservation technology conference kicks off

Project manager Bjorn Bergman attended the International Conservation Technology Conference (ICTC) this month in Lima, Peru. The inaugural event focused on how conservation technology is tackling global challenges, and brought together conservation practitioners and technologists, researchers, funders, corporate leaders, and policymakers from around the world. Bjorn met with key partners and attended presentations focused on ecological monitoring and protecting against illegal extractive activity of resources, such as mining, logging, or drilling.

See one example of our work in this area in the Inambari project, which is also based in Peru.

Graphic shows a tile for the World Ocean Summit. Its logo is shown in while on the left, superimposed over an underwater photo of a scuba diver in a coral reef on the right side. The tile is centered over a teal background, and white text under the logo reads “Innovate, protect, prosper: securing our ocean future, March 4th-5th 2026, Montreal.”

🇨🇦 Connect with us at the World Ocean Summit

Are you attending the 13th annual World Ocean Summit in Montréal next month? Let’s connect! The summit will focus on turning sustainable ocean commitments into concrete actions and comes at a turning point, with the ratification of the High Seas Biodiversity Treaty (BBNJ) providing tools to create marine protected areas (MPAs) on the high seas. MPAs safeguard ecosystems and habitats and play a crucial role in achieving global biodiversity and climate goals. These include the target to protect 30% of the planet by 2030, commonly known as 30x30.

In the News

A screenshot shows the lead photo and headline of a Climate Home News story, “Gas flaring soars in Niger Delta post-Shell, afflicting communities”

Greenhouse gases and toxic chemicals are released when natural gas from oil extraction is burned off in a process called gas flaring. New reporting by Climate Home News, supported by our analysis, shows how the activity has risen recently in the Niger Delta, impacting local communities. See how.
